COMMUNITY OUTREACH MINISTRIES

If you are interested in getting involved in any of these ministries, please contact the church office.

Pineville Neighbors Place – We partner with Pineville Neighbors place on various activities.  The mission of Pineville Neighbors Place is to connect our neighbors affected by poverty and homelessness to available services, empower our neighbors to make life sustaining choices, and unify the community of Pineville.

Pineville Elementary School – We provide assistance with our neighborhood elementary school through our Backpack Ministry, Teacher Appreciation and other events throughout the school year.

Backpack Ministry – The church provides food for the weekend for 25 students at Pineville Elementary School who otherwise would go hungry.  You can participate by contributing money or food, or by helping periodically with the sorting and packing of backpacks.

Evenings At Dorchester – Volunteers go to the Dorchester retirement community on the 3rd Tuesday night of the month and present a program.  Volunteers present programs such as radio shows, travelogues, music presentations or hymn sings.

Rise Against Hunger – Once a year, we partner with Rise Against Hunger to pack thousands of meals for those in need in the Charlotte community.  It’s a great way to serve.

Adopt a HighwayPUMC partners with North Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway program. Each quarter, we have volunteers spend a Saturday morning picking up trash and debris along a two-mile stretch on South Polk Street (Old Lancaster Hwy). We believe in Staying Green and Keeping Clean!  We encourage anyone who is interested to come join us, as many hands make light work.

Mission Opportunities – Every other year we go on a mission trip abroad through Living Water World Missions.  Living Water World Missions is a non-profit organization located in Visalia, California existing to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in the context of installing sustainable water purification systems for communities in need. We have traveled to El Salvador and Costa Rica. These are amazing experiences for all involved.

Each November, the church participates in Operation Christmas child where toys and other fun items are packed into shoeboxes that will be sent to bring joy to children around the world.

Roof Above – Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte joined forces as a single organization to have a greater impact on their mission to end homelessness.  We have partnered with this program to assist where we can help them reach their goal: the simple comfort of a roof to call one’s own.

Operation SandwichOn the 2nd Friday of each month at 11 am, everyone is invited to gather in the Fellowship Building to assemble sandwiches for The Urban Ministry.  The group enjoys a light lunch and devotion together.

CROP Walk – Every October we invite our congregation to walk to stop hunger.  It’s a great way to connect with our community and have a presence for a great cause.

Goody bags for Pineville Hospital ICU – Every other month we provide toiletry bags to the ICU waiting area at Atrium Health Pineville. These bags are given to family members waiting in the ICU area on weekends.  Why the ICU area?  This particular waiting area can be a lonely place on the weekends.  No surgeries are scheduled resulting in less staff, less activity.  Due to the severity of conditions being treated, family members spend long hours in the ICU just waiting.  Many times, they come to the hospital in a rush or may have forgotten something from home due to their emotional state.  These goody bags serve to ease their burden while they wait.

ESL Classes – We offer English as a Second Language once a week and open our doors to a diversity of people from all over the world.  It’s fun and educational for all involved.
